Unpacking the unofficial fanfiction census

There’s a reason why fanfic site Archive of Our Own was on Time’s 50 Best Websites of 2013. AO3 is popular, it’s easy to use, and it was created by people who know about fanfic. And so, as Tumblr user destinationtoast realized, its meticulous tagging system provides enough information to compile a kind of unofficial fanfic census.
