The title on the Rainbow Hands Tumblr is “Spider Webs - No Doubt,” the title of a major 1995 hit from a major band, one that formed back in 1986 and is still performing and releasing albums. Yes, at least one ska band made it big.
The great thing about abstract art, however, is that titles may or may not relate to the actual visual content of the artwork in question.
So, on the one hand this may be a straightforward representation of layered spiderwebs. A straightforward representation of layered spiderwebs that has been rainbow-ified and animated in a psychedelic, throbbing tunnel of RGB-enhanced madness.
On the other hand, this may be your frontal cortex neurons this morning. Our condolences.
“This gif is the product of a heated debate and inspired by an awesome movie. It is essentially what happens when two people can’t figure out what the pringles slogan is and after the confusion, re-watch the Noe’s trippy movie Enter the Void and make a gif from those experiences. The title comes from an infomercial promoting a strip club in New York City, ‘Gallagher’s 2000.’ It never fails to freak me out, especially at 3 am when I’m falling asleep with the T.V.”
Cats. Drugs. Rock and roll. This GIF has them all.
When you take cats (of which, we remind you, the Internet is composed), put them together with Bucharest artist Matei Apostolescu, and add a dash of Tumblr GIF artist extraordinaire Ozneo, you have something too awesome to be contained.
It all started with this gorgeous, insanely detailed image called “Strange Summer Cat,” which Apostolescu posted on his website. True to the artist’s style, it’s an intriguing blend of the mechanical and the organic, with a mandala-like quality. Ozneo, an artist who rarely remixes others, turned it into a positive/negative strobing GIF guaranteed to blow the most mundane of minds. As the mystically significant 600 Tumblr notes attest, it’s just the thing to contemplate while the post-yoga mushrooms kick in.
First of all, he has a trademark! Secondly, his work is always interesting and usually strikingly composed in high-contrast, with an existential point to make.
One of the best examples of his work is this GIF, which contrasts the studied nonchalance of a John Steed silhouette and the psychotic interiorscape of the German Expressionist silent film, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, to stunning effect.
Who will win: the self-possessed every man or his tumultuous surroundings? It’s a question that’s clearly resonated on Tumblr, as 1,832 people have made notes on this particular post.
